Motel Room in Flagstaff
I'm a strictly 'economy' sort of traveller and find life more interesting and colourful in the cheaper end of the accomodation market. I have learnt though that a $30 dollar room in Northern New Mexico will get you a reasonable room, yes the window might be cracked and the bathroom just a fraction below basic, but it'll be comfortable. The $30 room I stayed in in Las Vegas was something very different. A grimey room with low wattage bulbs, the knobs had broken off of the air con, there were city kids on bikes riding around outside in the car park, The neighbouring I15 freeway in it's concrete cutting rumbled all night.
100 yards away from this comfortable and homely motel in Flagstaff is the main railroad route across the South West USA. Mile long container trains trundle through this town every twenty minutes or so sounding their horns as they approach the numerous level crossings. This goes on all night. it's relentless.
