Old motel on Route 66

Old motel on Route 66

When Route 66 was conceived it more or less cemented road trip culture. The road ran from Chicago Illinois to the West Coast. it was gradually replaced by parallel running interstates which have basically sucked the traffic away from it.
Very little of the original road remains. However I picked it up just West of Albuquerque NM and hugged it all the way to the Needles in California coming off when it was completely replaced by newer roads.
Towns like Seligman, and Kingman still have that Route 66 feel. Seligman has a devoted souvenir shop and a scattering of old cars from the golden age of road trips lining the street. There's a quiet but lively feel about the place.
Other towns have faired less well.
