Modern Wind pump
I'd driven hundreds of miles around the great plains taking shots of flat fields, wind pumps, and deserted buildings.
The final leg of the trip was from a wet Des Moines up to Minneapolis.
Unlike the relative heatwave we had gone through in Nebraska, Iowa was freezing.
But on the positive side, being freezing it did throw up some unusual imagery.
Visually it was so gloomy that the land was colourless. This image of the wind turbine shot on black and white film is a very accurate rendition of the scene in terms of colour.
It was one of those pictures taken in conditions that were so cold that you find yourself running on the spot as you take the readings whilst cursing under your breath, grabbing the tripod and camera almost at the same time you fire the cable release and literally throwing the equipment into the car, getting in and slamming the door behind you.
It's precisely this miserable experience in Iowa that makes me want to go back and see it in the heat of summer. It looked like a hot place in the 'Bridges of Madison County' picture I'd like to experience that same Mid West heat one day.
